Pest control myths debunked

  • Pests only come inside dirty homes.

Even the cleanest homes in Treasure Valley can have pests. In fact, there is no relation between hygiene and a house free of pests. Over the years, this myth has developed, but it is not true at all. Pests do not come inside your house for dirt but for food, water, shelter, and to be protected from other big animals. They are not interested in how tidy your home is. They will enter the cleanest room and create an infestation before you know it.

  • Cheese can be used to trap mice.

Cartoons and movies, especially those made for children, have led people to believe that rats and mice are attracted to dairy products like cheese. This is why many people have attempted to catch their house pests using it. However, they have failed. It is a complete myth that mice love cheese. In fact, these pesky critters love items like nuts, seeds, and cotton wool.

  • Keeping a cat will keep rodents away.

The children’s show Tom & Jerry might have led people to believe that cats hate mice and love to chase them away. However, that is not always the case. While your cat may love the chasing, it won’t be enough to keep an entire infestation out of your house. Moreover, even if you choose to trust your cat with this job, do not expect them to do it overnight. Even your cat will take a long time to chase all the rodents in your house away.

  • Bed bugs are only found in hotels and motels.

This myth is entirely false. Bed bugs can be found everywhere there is human life, regardless of how clean it is. You can find them in your own house, bus seats, classrooms, and anywhere you can think of. They love to hide in little hidden dark places, such as inside your alarm clock, the seams of your mattress, and behind your bedside table.

Their hiding spots are not limited and can be found anywhere. This is specifically why their removal should be done with the help of a professional and not at home.
